Laser diode modules are an integral and necessary part of many industries, including the military, medical and manufacturing sectors. Much of our current advancement in technology would not be possible without them. Below is a brief explanation of eight types of laser diode modules with an example of uses for each.
Industrial
As the name infers, these heavy duty modules are capable of withstanding the extreme environments and heavy usage typical of industrial tasks such as forming, drilling, welding and micro-machining. A well-made industrial diode will be compact and easy to change out when required.
Compact
Due to their efficient size and reliability, these modules are perfect for integration into applications where space and efficiency is at a premium. This can include medical alignment instrumentation for tasks such as patient positioning and industrial alignment functions such as pre-press plates positioning.
Photon
Photon laser modules are self-contained units that are intended for use by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as an application for industrial, medical, and biomedical uses. Because they are used in the OEM industry, it is not uncommon for them to features some sort of customization specified by the OEM client.
TEC
TEC modules (Thermo-electrically cooled) offer a high level of consistency and repeatability in a compact and versatile unit, making them well-suited to microscopy, machine vision, biomedical instrumentation, and high-resolution printing tasks. Using the Peltier effect, thermo-electric cooling creates a heat transfer between the union of different materials. Outstanding power and wavelength stability are the highlight of these finely-made modules.
Alignment
One of the clothing industry’s most important tools, the alignment laser module generally offers a range of interchangeable precision optics perfect for situations that call for machine vision and precision alignment, such as in the manufacture of clothing and textiles. They can also be used for patient alignment, such as MRIs and CT scans, plasma cutting, and even chassis alignment in the automobile industry.
Green
A green laser diode module is called for in applications where it is necessary to see a very visible beam of light. Medical, scientific and industrial communities make use of these modules. Recent advancements in green laser technology has led to the treatment of port-wine stain birthmarks, a disfiguring skin condition.
Micro Laser
These ultra-compact modules surround us daily. Their small size makes them perfect for many common applications such as barcode readers, measuring devices and laser beam pointers, as they produce extremely thin laser lines.
Threadmount
As the name may suggest, thread mount modules are used mostly in industrial applications that require positioning and/or alignment. The simplicity of mounting these diodes make them versatile and easy to use.
